John Paul Janke co-host of NITV Australia's The Point, once read a quote which perfectly sums up his mother Joanna Jaima Janke (or ‘Nana JJ’ as his family calls her).

“My mother is the bones of my spine, keeping me straight and true. She is my blood, making sure it runs rich and strong. She is the beating of my heart.” I simply cannot imagine where I’d be with my mother influence and guidance in my life.

"Because of my wife, the mother to our 8 children, I can!"

Ben Mitchell from the Meriam and Mualgal peoples of the Eastern and Western Torres Straits, and National NAIDOC Committee Co-Chair gives a moving tribute to his wife of 21 years Marcia Salam. “The trials she’s been through, with Ovarian Cancer and losing our last child. To go through that and raise the rest of our 7 children, she is an inspiration to me. Because of what she is, and who she is I am able to do everything that I can in my life because of her.”

Welcome to NAIDOC.

We acknowledge all First Peoples of the beautiful lands on which we live and celebrate their enduring knowledge and connections to Country. We honour the wisdom of and pay respect to Elders past and present.
