Spotlight conversations: Keeping Country Strong

Indigenous Protected Areas (IPAs) span more than 1 million square kilometres of Australia’s land and seas. Led by First Nations groups and combining modern science and traditional knowledge, IPAs are keeping jobs on Country and managing biodiversity conversation and cultural heritage.

Join us for this special NAIDOC week event to find out how IPAs are transforming Indigenous communities and contributing to the global fight against environmental degradation, species loss and climate change.

The event features a panel discussion and a screening of Keeping Country Strong, a new documentary highlighting the critical work of Indigenous rangers across Australia.

Keeping Country Strong documents the work of Indigenous rangers who are practising culture and working to safeguard Australia’s endangered species in a changing climate. The documentary, by Country Needs People, premiered in 2024 at Beyond Borders, an international documentary film festival held in Greece. This will be the first public screening in Australia.

Presented in partnership with Country Needs People.

Welcome to NAIDOC.

We acknowledge all First Peoples of the beautiful lands on which we live and celebrate their enduring knowledge and connections to Country. We honour the wisdom of and pay respect to Elders past and present.
