YARNING STRONG – NAIDOC WEEK SPECIAL – FOR OUR ELDERS!
FOR OUR ELDERS!
This Yarning Strong panel join our hosts Mitch Tambo and Cerisa Benjamin in celebrating our Elders within the music industry past and present, for everything they do, and continue to do, in creating pathways for the generations to come.
Our Elders have been trailblazers, leaders and game changers in the music industry to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices are heard and respected nationwide.
They guide our generations and pave the way for us to take the paths we can take today. Guidance, not only through generations of advocacy and activism, but in everyday life and how to place ourselves in the world.
We acknowledge the importance of our Elders advocating for First Nations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) rights and how significant their impact is felt today for the younger generations to express their connection to Culture, Country and self identity through music. And how this reformation addresses the Mental Health and Wellbeing of our people and community, even though there are still many barriers we face today. We will unpack some of these barriers with the Elders based off their own experiences should they feel comfortable sharing.
This free event will take place live and in person at the Music Markets in Collingwood and will also be live streamed for those who can't make it. Make sure to register your spot, join us for brunch and good yarns.
And most importantly, join us in celebrating NAIDOC Week with a stripped back acoustic performance by the one and only Uncle Kutcha Edwards!!!
