NAIDOC Talk- Get Up, Stand Up, Show Up
NAIDOC Talk- Get Up, Stand Up, Show Up
An evening in conversation with Karen Smith Wednesday 6 July 6pm (networking from 5:30pm). Join Karen from the Buruberongal clan of the Hawkesbury (Derrubin) area to discuss ideas on the theme of this year’s NAIDOC celebration: Get Up, Stand Up, Show Up. Karen has been the AHO’s Education Officer since 2011 and has shared her knowledge and experience of the local area and Aboriginal history and culture with thousands of local residents, students and schools. Whether it’s seeking proper environmental, cultural and heritage protections, Constitutional change, a comprehensive process of truth-telling, working towards treaties, or calling out racism—we must do it together. It must be a genuine commitment by all of us to Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! and support and secure institutional, structural, collaborative, and cooperative reforms. It’s also time to celebrate the many who have driven and led change in our communities over generations—they have been the heroes and champions of change, of equal rights and even basic human rights. Bush foods tasting board created and supplied by Aboriginal educator Jess @ Koori Kinnections. BYO personal food and drinks welcome. Cost to attend is $0 however you may wish to make a donation to your favorite First Nations charitable enterprise. Booking essential –however ONLY book if you can make it. this event is limited to 35 places only!
