NAIDOC MOVIE NIGHT - Free community Emu Runner screening

National NAIDOC Week returns on July 6-13, 2025, a time to recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We believe NAIDOC Week is an important opportunity for all Australians to learn about and celebrate First Nations cultures and histories.

2025 marks the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC Week, with the theme ‘The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy’. To celebrate, we’ll be hosting a duo of free film screenings of the film Emu Runner for the community in Lismore and Port Macquarie. The film follows the story of a young girl who forms a bond with a wild emu to help her deal with her mother’s death. The 2018 Australian Independent film was written and directed by Imogen Thomas, who worked alongside Indigenous script consultant Frayne Barker on the project.

Both screenings of Emu Runner will be free for the community to enjoy, and will celebrate the occasion with a special Welcome to Country pre-screening. We would be honoured for you to join us at one of the below screenings, details are as follows:

Monday, July 7, 2025 - 5.45pm
Majestic Cinema, Port Macquarie
Popcorn and light refreshments will be available for guests. Please RSVP to Veronica@buttery.org.au
Thursday, July 10, 2025 - 6.00pm
