NAIDOC in the City
Take a stroll through Hyde Park north to discover food, song, art, dance and stories in the heart of the city. Bayumi Hub Bayumi translates to ‘music’ and the hub will host a celebratory program of talented First Nations artists. Celebrate prolific storytellers and contemporary music artists from all genres, hailing from many nations. Learn more about ancient song lines, their enduring survival and inherent connection to First Nations people. Dangura Ring Dangura translates to ‘dance’ and is the spiritual heart and soul of NAIDOC in the City. Experience, heal and unearth the infinite continual connection to Country. A Welcome to Country ceremony will open the festival followed by the Calling of the Clans. The Gunyahs Gunyahs translates to ‘hut/home’ and is a dedicated space for children and their families. Find toys, games and activities to keep the young (and young at heart) entertained. Wunyawuri Way Wunyawuri translates ‘to make believe, do in jest’. It’s a street theatre space where First Nations performers share stories and performances for all ages. From contemporary theatre works to historical storytelling mediums, you’ll uncover new and emerging talent at shows throughout the day. BlaQ Bilarra Games Bilarra translates to ‘spear’ and is the First Nations games space at NAIDOC in the City. Everyone is invited to experience the traditional games from various First Nations communities and peoples. Touch, hear, see and move in these fun activities suitable for all ages. Fig Tree Markets Buy local and authentic art, craft and produce from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses. Stalls are throughout Hyde Park north.
