Film screening of 'A Voice to be Heard'

‘A Voice to be Heard’ tells the story of the first time Aboriginal people from across Australia were directly elected to a body representing their interests to the Federal Government. Join us for a screening of this poignant and illustrative 1974 documentary film. Narrated by Kath Walker (Oodgeroo Noonuccal), poet, artist and campaigner for Aboriginal rights, the film also features footage of John Moriarty, Charles Perkins and former Prime Minister, Gough Whitlam. 'A Voice To Be Heard' spans the election, the declaration of the poll and the first meeting of the National Aboriginal Consultative Committee (NACC). People expressed their hopes and plans for the future of their communities. Not all those speaking saw the institution of the NACC as admirable; none saw it as an end in itself.
