This year, Chadstone – The Fashion Capital will celebrate NAIDOC Week with a program of live art creation and music, both across the mall music and with live performances.
LIVE ART CREATION:
THURSDAY 11 JULY - SATURDAY 13 JULY
Watch on as Tommy Day III produces a large-scale artwork live in Chadstone.
Day is a Gunditjmara, Wemba Wemba and Yorta Yorta man. He is a multidisciplinary artist based in Shepparton, Victoria. Day’s art captures the essence of country, weaving the memories of his heritage into vivid landscapes.
Combining traditional and contemporary forms, he paints from an Aboriginal perspective, reflecting the harmony between animals, people and spirits. Through his work, Day honours the past while envisioning a bright future for his community.
In the work he creates for Chadstone, Day's artwork titled 'Mirring Leerpeen - Countries Song' depicts the waterways and landscapes that have been shaped over countless generations. The piece further reflects upon community as a key aspect of his cultural heritage, aligning with Chadstone’s role as a meeting place for our local community.
