YALINGUTH LIVE Fitzroy Tour for NAIDOC Week
YALINGUTH LIVE Fitzroy Tour for NAIDOC Week
YALINGUTH invites you to celebrate NAIDOC week by immersing yourself in the diverse and powerful stories of Elders who were instrumental in the Aboriginal Rights Movement and establishment of community-controlled organisations along iconic Gertrude St, Fitzroy. Guided by Jason Tamiru, Melbourne audiences will walk with Elders and community, in person and augmented (via the Yalinguth app and loudspeaker), along the streets of Aboriginal Fitzroy. The tour will begin at the historical Fig Tree in Carlton Gardens on the corner of Gertrude St and Nicholson St. The audience will then explore the stories, songs and poems in the Yalinguth app, guided by Jason Tamiru and with live storytelling by special guests. The event will conclude at The Builders Arms Hotel, with more music and storytelling at this important gathering place. About the Yalinguth app: The Yalinguth app is an immersive audio app sharing the important Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history of Gertrude Street, Fitzroy. In the Woi Wurrung language Yalinguth means ‘yesterday’ and echoes the sentiments of many Elders that “we need to go back, before we can go forwards”. “I must say that this is an INCREDIBLE immersive experience that everyone must live. The music, the sounds and everything became extremely real. I've really heard and felt the land.” - Yalinguth app user review "It’s like Pokemon Go with a purpose – hope it is as successful as that!" - Yalinguth app user review Please Note: You do not need the app/headphones for this event but if you have time we would highly recommend arriving earlier for a wander and listen (with headphones and the app downloaded prior on wi-fi). Or come back to experience another day! The app is free to download and available 24/7 from Google Play and on Apple's App Store. For more info and to download the app visit the Yalinguth website: www.yalinguth.com.au. This event is supported by The Builders Arms Hotel and the City of Yarra.
