Since 2013, Warrawong has hosted a local family fun day in the theme and spirit of NAIDOC. The Family Fun Day brings together culture and community on local land where we can celebrate, dance, eat, and connect with our community. We invite local services to join us in celebrating alongside our community with games and activities that engage and entertain families and individuals on the day.
We invite and host Aboriginal elders to join us on the day who, alongside the now 40 services that attend the day ensure that children, young people, and adults attending the event are welcomed to gather and enjoy the day with us.
In 2023, We had to relocate the NAIDOC event from the intimate park ground on Greene Street to Darcy Wentworth Park to cater to the increased number of services and attendance on the day.
In 2024, we hope to continue to our NAIDOC tradition in hosting a family fun day that encapsulates the enduring strength and vitality of first nations culture in Keeping the fire burning! Black, Loud and Proud.
We also acknowledge that Warrawong is due to undergo some environmental changes such as the knock down and rebuild of the community centre and renovation of some main streets. The Working committees and local services will work and support the community through these changes and displacement by ensuring that our community traditions of NAIDOC remain solid and ever present.
