From our Elders
From our Elders gives voice to the perspectives of nine Aboriginal Elders who reflect on their experiences as Elders and their connections to Country and Culture. Blak Crow filmmaker, Daen Sansbury-Smith (Narungga/Kaurna and Trawlwoolway) has undertaken a personal journey interviewing Elders from his family and networks including from Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation and Maroondah-based Mullum Mullum Indigenous Gathering Place. Inspired by this year’s NAIDOC Week theme For our Elders, this project presents a range of viewpoints sharing invaluable messages from a diverse group of Elders based in Wurundjeri, Nharangga and Pakana/Palawa Country. The video work is complemented by Cultural displays presented by Mullum Mullum Indigenous Gathering Place. With thanks and appreciation to Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Corporation, Mullum Mullum Indigenous Gathering Place and the Elders who participated in the project: Uncle Bill Nicholson (Wurundjeri), Aunty Zeta Thomson (Wurundjeri/Yorta Yorta), Uncle Kutcha Edwards (Mutti Mutti) Uncle David Farrall (Arrernte), Aunty Daphne Milward (Yorta Yorta), Aunty Irene Norman (Wailwan), Aunty Antoinette Smith (Palawa), Aunty Janet Turpie-Johnstone (Gunditjamara), Uncle Michael Wanganeen (Nharangga) Image: paintings of Aunty Irene Norman and Aunty Daphne Milward, Mullum Mullum Indigenous Gathering Place Elders by Amanda Wright, Realm windows
