MEGAfauna: once there were giants!
Embark on an adventure trail filled with nature, science, art, culture and history! Come face to face with Australia’s prehistoric past by immersing yourself in the Gardens newest Megafauna trail – the first of its kind in Australia. Giant animals that went extinct thousands of years ago will be on display throughout the Gardens: wombat-like creatures the size of hippos, flightless birds that weighed twice as much as modern emus, a turtle with a horned head and spiked tail, and a giant monitor lizard to name a few. Adventurers are encouraged to step back in time and learn about the last ice age and gain an understanding of how plants and animals co-existed thousands of years ago. Learn about the giants names, connections and stories by following Wonambi the Rainbow Serpent from the Visitor Centre to the Red Centre Garden. Wheelchair and pram accessible.
