John Wayne Parsons

John Wayne Parsons blends gospel, blues, jazz, and cultural songlines to bring ancestral wisdom to life through powerful, transformative performances.

John Wayne Parsons is a distinguished Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artist whose music bridges ancient songlines with contemporary storytelling. Drawing from his Yagarabul, Narangawal, Gitabal, Maluligal, Kemer Kemer Meriam, and South Sea Islander heritage, John Wayne crafts performances that are both culturally rich and emotionally resonant.

An ethnomusicologist and celebrated vocalist, he blends the soulful depth of gospel with the grooves of blues and jazz, creating a powerful sonic landscape that honours Country, culture, and community. His artistry invites audiences into a space where tradition and modern expression meet—celebrating resilience, identity, and the shared human experience.

Performing with his ensemble The Dukes, John Wayne delivers captivating shows that move seamlessly from intimate reflection to uplifting celebration.
