Dalka Warra Mittung Fire Keepers Community Event

The “Fire Keepers” event will be a cultural celebration for the community and will include a number of music performances and cultural activities. It will honour the strength and vitality of First Nations people and their connection to Country. This event will be the first time the Alpine Shire has publicly celebrated NAIDOC Week and supported First Nations people to make decisions about their own social and cultural needs. The event will be led by Lee Couch, a proud Gamilaroi woman residing in the Alpine Shire, and will open with a Welcome to Country. The event will bring together First Nations people and the broader community to celebrate, heal and build positive relationships – through dance, vocal performance, art / weaving workshops and storytelling.

Welcome to NAIDOC.

We acknowledge all First Peoples of the beautiful lands on which we live and celebrate their enduring knowledge and connections to Country. We honour the wisdom of and pay respect to Elders past and present.
