Ms. Mariah Williams
Mariah Williams is a proud Wiradjuri woman, three-time Olympian and Australian Hockeyroo, currently the only Aboriginal athlete representing Australia in the national women’s hockey team. As an elite athlete and leader, she uses her platform to advocate First Nations voices and drive meaningful cultural change within sport.
Mariah has contributed to Hockey Australia’s Reconciliation Action Plan, helped design the organisation’s first First Nations playing uniform, and continues this work through the RAP Advisory Group and the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup First Nations uniform working group.
She is the Connection to Country Officer at the Western Australian Institute of Sport, a member of the SportWest Cultural Navigation Advisory Group, and she also mentors three Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ambassadors through the Australian Institute of Sport Share A Yarn initiative.
Through her leadership, advocacy and sporting journey, Mariah is committed to creating culturally safe environments and inspiring the next generation of First Nations athletes to pursue excellence while remaining proud of their identity and culture.
