Mr. Tyson Neal-Edwards
Tyson Neal-Edwards is a Geelong-based Gunditjmarra, Waddawurrung and Arrernte man who believes culture, health, employment and connection to Country can transform lives. Through his work in emergency management and recovery, he supports cultural heritage protection and cultural fire practices while advocating for improved health outcomes for Aboriginal communities and inspiring young people to believe in themselves.
Tyson contributes to local initiatives including Wathaurong Boxing and Djilang Runners, and serves as a Native Title Applicant for the Waddawurrung claim group. In recognition of his community impact, he was named the 2025 Wathaurong Youth NAIDOC recipient.
Using running as a platform for storytelling and wellbeing, Tyson promotes healthier lifestyles and positive change within families and communities. He was selected for the 2025 Indigenous Marathon Project and featured in The Long Run documentary.
He also contributed to a National Resilient Australia Award-winning group, helping ensure cultural heritage protection remained central during the 2024–25 Gariwerd and Little Desert bushfires.
Tyson is dedicated to creating opportunities for young people and strengthening communities, believing respect and connection are key to building a more confident and united future for all Australians.
