Aunty Lorraine Peeters
Aunty Lorraine Peeters is a nationally respected Elder, Stolen Generations Survivor, and the founder of the Marumali Program®—,an evidence-informed healing program, developed by a Stolen Generations survivor specifically for Stolen Generations survivors, their families and communities.
Drawing on her own lived experience and deep cultural knowledge, Aunty Lorraine developed the Marumali Program®, Journey of Healing Model to deepen understanding of the impacts of forced child removal and to guide culturally safe healing. Through the Marumali Program®, she has supported hundreds of Stolen Generations survivors and their families on their healing journeys while equipping Aboriginal workers, practitioners and organisations with the knowledge, skills and culturally grounded, trauma-informed approaches needed to safely support survivors in ways that honour their culture, lived experiences and self-determination. In doing so, she has strengthened the capacity of Aboriginal communities and services across Australia to provide safe, respectful and effective healing support.
Aunty Lorraine has been a powerful advocate for truth-telling and has played a significant role in raising national awareness of the enduring impacts of the Stolen Generations. Her work has helped deepen understanding of intergenerational trauma while ensuring that Aboriginal ways of knowing, being and doing remain at the centre of healing, recovery and wellbeing.
Through the Marumali Program®, Aunty Lorraine has created a lasting legacy that continues to strengthen individuals, families and communities. Her vision has inspired hope and healing, ensuring that future generations have access to culturally safe approaches that restore dignity, identity, connection and wellbeing.
Today, Aunty Lorraine's legacy extends far beyond the program itself. The Marumali Program® continues to provide a nationally recognised framework for healing that honours the strength, resilience and self-determination of Stolen Generations survivors. Her life's work stands as a lasting testament to the power of Aboriginal-led healing, cultural knowledge and the resilience of survivors, leaving an enduring legacy for generations to come.
