The Aboriginal & Islander Independent Community School (The Murri School)
The Murri School is a proudly community-controlled Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander independent school in Acacia Ridge, Brisbane, celebrating 40 years of culturally grounded education. Built on strong community vision, the school delivers a strength-based approach that empowers young people to succeed academically while staying deeply connected to culture and identity.
Culture is central to learning, embedded through the Connected Curriculum, which integrates First Nations knowledge, Yagara language, cultural programs and leadership development from Prep to Year 12. This approach creates culturally safe, inclusive classrooms and has led to measurable improvements, including reduced suspensions, increased engagement, and strong Year 12 completion outcomes.
The Murri School prioritises real-world pathways, offering vocational training, traineeships and programs such as Junior Rangers, which connect students to Country while building employment opportunities. Cultural initiatives, including dance and community service, further strengthen pride and leadership.
Grounded in strong partnerships with families and Elders, the school fosters confident, culturally connected young people. The Murri School stands as a powerful example of community-led education, nurturing future generations to thrive with identity, purpose and pride.
