Masepah Banu

Masepah Banu (Mas), is a Malu Kiwai Boigu and Mua Islander from the Torres Strait Islands who acknowledges his Aboriginal heritage from Taepithiggi, the community of Mapoon in the western part of Cape York Peninsula.

He has extensive experience in governance as Project Officer at the Office of Registrar of Indigenous Corporations, Chairperson for the ACT Torres Strait Islander Corporation, Member of the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body where his portfolio is Education and Training and he was an ACT Delegate and Director to the National Congress of Australia’s First Peoples and a current member to TAFE NSW Advisory Committee.

Currently, Mas is a Community Engagement Facilitator for the NSW Coalition of Aboriginal Peak Organisations, consulting with Aboriginal communities to setup an independent Aboriginal led mechanism to keep NSW Government accountable in Closing the Gap targets.

It’s about celebrating and showcasing our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage, culture and businesses. It’s our week to shine, be proud and for the public to engage, learn and to share our week together.
