Get Up, Stand Up and Show Up this NAIDOC Week at our free, all ages Arts Market curated by proud Kamilaroi woman and local artist Lucy Webster! Join this family-friendly afternoon including a market featuring handmade arts and crafts made by local Elders and community members, a free BBQ, an arts workshop for kids, traditional games and a yarning circle. Take a look at the full program below and join us to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples this NAIDOC Week! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12:30pm: Welcome Opening Remarks 12:30-3:30pm Local Community Market Buy locally made arts, crafts and more at this market organised by local Elders and community members. Have a yarn at the stalls and snap up some beautiful handmade objects at this community-led market. 12:30-3:30pm Exhibition: Winanga Burruguu Visit Lucy’s exhibition Winanga Burrugu at Melton Library throughout the afternoon. 1:30 until sold out: BBQ With a focus on native ingredients, don’t miss out on a feed at our free community BBQ! 1:30-3:30 Traditional Games and Drop-in Arts Workshop There’s something for the whole family- drop-in to our children's art workshop space for painting activities inspired by Lucy’s exhibition. Learn a range of different traditional games from communities around Australia and challenge your friends and family to a game! 2:00-3:00pm: Yarning Circle: Dreaming Stories Everyone is welcome to join this yarning circle focused on Dreaming Stories found in Lucy’s exhibition Winanga Burruguu. In a yarning circle, dialogue is centred on finding ways to grow and sustain mutual understanding and respect of shared issues. Elders Room We welcome all Elders participating in and visiting this event to make use of our Elders Room throughout the program. Free tea, coffee and light snacks will be available.
