Are you interested in setting the direction for national NAIDOC Week celebrations? Do you have the skills, passion and networks to help us drive and grow the celebrations?

Applications are now open for membership of the National NAIDOC Committee. Three positions are available.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the evolution of NAIDOC Week celebrations across the country. NAIDOC Week plays a vital and unique role in not only celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander achievement, but the rich history, diverse cultures and survival of the oldest continuing living culture on the planet.

The National NAIDOC Committee make key decisions on National NAIDOC celebrations each year including the focus city, theme, National NAIDOC Poster and facilitate the staging of the National NAIDOC Awards. They interact with and lobby Indigenous and non-Indigenous organisations to help build on the increasing success of NAIDOC Week each year.

National NAIDOC Committee Co-chairs Patricia Conlon and John Paul Janke are putting a call out for passionate and enthusiastic applicants to be part of the National NAIDOC Committee.

“The position requires substantial commitment, including meeting on weekends, and taking on projects out of session to help drive the NAIDOC. We’re looking for dedicated and passionate members who can drive NAIDOC Week forward to make the celebrations even bigger and better,” says Ms Conlon.

Mr Janke reflects “It’s truly a privilege to be part of driving this significant event. Pat and I are looking forward to welcoming new members to be part of the 2019 Committee as we build on the significant growth of NAIDOC celebration over the last decade.” Membership of the National NAIDOC Committee is voluntary and no remuneration is provided for the position. Travel and accommodation to participate in Committee meetings and to attend the National NAIDOC Awards event is provided in line with the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet’s travel policy.

Applicants must be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander to apply.

More information on how to apply including the selection criteria can be found on the NAIDOC Committee Page.

Successful applicants will commence duties in September 2018.

Successful members are expected to be available to attend a Committee meeting on Saturday 22 September 2018 to begin planning for NAIDOC Week 2019.

Applications close on 24 August 2018.
