It’s about building our knowledge and capacity of as women in this community and of course it’s about catching up, having a break, a yarn and bound to be a bucket load of fun with other women in our community.

QIMR Berghofer will host a public forum dedicated to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health during NAIDOC Week. Researcher Linda Medlin will address the forum on respiratory illness, the second leading cause of hospitalisation for Indigenous Australians behind dialysis care. Justin Chapman will explain why increasing physical activity and reducing sedentary behaviour is important for physical and emotional well-being. Other keynote speakers will include epidemiologist Daniel Williamson, the manager of Queensland Health’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Unit. For more

Mornington Shire Council are collaborating with the Mornington Island community to bring to life the first Island Family Fun Run. The event is aimed to engage with the entire community, service providers, students and visitors on sacred ground. Elders will be sharing stories of cultural significance as families walk the scenic track around the rim of the island, past sacred burial sites and areas of local indigenous importance.
