Daniel Rogers - Apprentice of the Year

Dan, a twenty-one year old from Millicent in South Australia is currently three and half years into his apprenticeship as a fitter and turner.

He is the first Aboriginal person to be selected to represent south Australia in the upcoming World Skills Competition to be held in Melbourne.

Dan left his home life in Millicent at a young age to do his apprenticeship as a fitter and turner in Keith, which is over 200kms from home.

Encouraged by his success as an apprentice, Dan wants to complete further study after the World Skills Competition.

Dan is working toward his goal of going into business on his own one day. While he realises that this is a long way off at the moment, he aspires to having a successful business in the future that will allow him to provide training opportunities for young Aboriginal apprentices, who can then follow in his footsteps. Dan wants to give back what he was given.

Dan’s demonstrated commitment to personal and vocational career development is an inspiration to us all.
