Adam Goodes - Sportsperson of the Year

Adam Goodes plays for the Sydney Swans and is one of the star players of the club.

Adam made his debut in AFL in 1999 and was recruited from Horsham / North Ballarat U18 team where Adam grew up.

In 2003 Adam received the highest honour in Australian Rules Football by jointly winning the Brownlow Medal.

In 2003 and 2002 Adam was awarded best and fairest. This is testament to his good sportsmanship, and Adam being a positive role model for Indigenous and Non-Indigenous youngsters.

2003 received honour of being named on the All Australian Team

In 2001 Adam played in the International Rules Series

And in 1999 Adam was named AFL’s Rising Star.

Aside from Sport Adam is currently studying Aboriginal Studies as part of his diploma at the Eora Centre in inner-city Sydney.

Adam’s awareness of Australia’s Aboriginal history has grown through his studies. He believes this has helped his self confidence in working to make a difference for Aboriginal people.

Adam is involved in Aboriginal health programmes in the Western Sydney Suburb of Blacktown and is always on call to people in Sydney’s Aboriginal community. He speaks at numerous events promoting positive lifestyle and healthy lifestyle choices for Indigenous young people.
