Kaye Price - Scholar of the Year

Kaye Price comes from Tasmania but now lives and studies in Canberra.

At the age of 62, Kaye is proving learning and education is a life long process that need not end at a school level.

Kaye is currently a PhD candidate with Australia’s National University in Canberra.

In 1995, Kaye graduated with a Master of Education degree from the University of South Australia.

Kaye’s commitment to education is reflected in her career history.

She used to be a primary school teacher, deputy principal, principal, and Aboriginal Education Consultant and curriculum writer.

Kaye has worked for the Commonwealth Government administering Aboriginal Education programmes and has held various positions on education consultative boards and committees.

Kaye has lectured at tertiary levels in the Faculty of Education at the Queensland University of Technology, as well as at TAFE and the Oodgeroo Unit at Kelvin Grove.

Kaye is working to assist in improving the educational experience for Indigenous school students through her work in programmes that aim to investigate “what works” in a learning environment for Indigenous students.

Kaye has also worked on projects that have looked at the positive Self- Identity for Indigenous students and its relationship to school outcomes.

Kaye manages to meet the challenge of studying for her PhD and balancing family life. Showing her grandchildren the importance of study and education and that you are never too old to learn.
